I talked to Producer Scott Taylor at E3 last week to get details about Rise of Iron. He confirmed that Destiny’s only 2016 expansion will be bigger than House of Wolves yet smaller than The Taken King. That means cool new cut scenes, but no trips to The Reef.
The question is: will it be enough to get folks to spend more $$$ on Destiny?
Rise of Iron takes place just east of Old Russia in a new patrol zone called the Plague Lands. The primary antagonizing force is a Fallen faction called the Devil Splicers. But Taylor confirmed that we can also expect the Hive to show up. Additionally we will see a new social space, raid, armor sets, weapons, and both updated and brand new exotics (including the return of the Gjallarhorn).
We won’t get an in depth update for PVP until later in the summer. But new maps, modes, and an updated (bug free) Iron Banner were all confirmed.
And, Yes. Of course, the wolves from the trailer will appear in Felwinter’s Peak (the new social space). Bungie worked with a wolf sanctuary in Washington state to design and record audio for the new NPCs. They will not, however, be seen in combat. Taylor was not forthcoming about how big a role the wolves will play as NPCs, but he did confirm there would be additional characters in the space including Lord Saladin. Not including the woman seen in the trailer, who is actually a player’s Guardian. So, besides a few furry friends, there isn’t much in this expansion that we haven’t seen before.
Rise of Iron is set to release on September 20th, 2016 for $30. Let us know how you feel about it in the comments!
