Microsoft released an announcement today on Xbox Wire, showing off a ton of new features and updates to the Xbox One.
Most of these features and updates are geared towards improving the social part of the console. Players will have the ability to view who else is in a party with their mutual friends, giving you the chance to join in, if you’d like. You’ll also get to see how you rank within your group of friends as far as who has the most amount of achievements in the new Gamerscore Leaderboard. This is an interesting and fun little gimmick for competitive people such as myself who want to have some reason to boast. You’ll also be shown suggested friends based on other friends you might share, what sort of content is similar to yours, or they just happen to be popular gamers you may want to stay up-to-date with. Joining your friends’ Twitch livestreams will also be easier to do through Game Hubs or by accessing the game tile.
Speaking of game tiles, the Xbox One homescreen will be tidier and easier to use by allowing players to rearrange and organize their pinned applications and games however they please, even when you’re not connected to the internet. Players will also have access to an activity feed to let them see new posts from friends and trending topics, refreshing with each new post made.
Other new features will be focused on accessing certain applications outside of your Xbox One and on phones and PCs that run the new Windows 10 system, such as the Avatar Store and the official XBox News.
All of this and more is currently available to fiddle around with for players with access to Xbox One Preview. Next week, players with Windows 10 PC and mobile Xbox Beta app access will also get a chance to get a feel for these new features. For the rest of us, these features will be available to the public sometime in February.
