The next installment in the Syberia series is coming very soon, with the adventure game set to launch later this month on a variety of different platforms. It’s set to be the first release in the series since 2004, which aims to bring a variety of improvements to the formula.
This was shown off very well with the release of a story trailer for the game, which gives a solid idea of what players can come to expect from the experience. As fans of previous games will be familiar with, the trailer packs plenty of emotion and mystery as we learn about the intriguing world the game is set within. We control Kate Walker in Syberia, which has her ending up in the care of the Youkol people after being rescued from her makeshift boat.
Being a former lawyer from New York, the fact that the Youkol tribe saved her life has caused her to become one of them now. This leads to an adventure that has her helping the nomads fulfill an ancestral tradition, all while accompanying their snow ostriches during their seasonal migration. Of course, evil forces intervene that make this more difficult than it should be, leading to an engaging adventure full of puzzles and mysteries that adventure fans should eat up.
The game was originally announced in 2009, with an initial release of 2010 being targeted for PC and PlayStation 3. Negotiation troubles and lack of funding led to multiple delays for the game, causing production to not begin until 2013. More delays would follow, but this long and winding road of a development cycle is finally coming to an end for Syberia fans this month. The game will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on April 25th, with a Nintendo Switch release also set to happen at some point later this year.
Both Syberia and Syberia 2 were well-received during their initial releases, regularly being praised for their stories and graphics. Syberia 3 looks to continue in the tradition of the previous installments while bringing some surprises of its own, and hopefully the long wait will have been worth it.
