We have had another exciting week in the Pro league with two fantastic match days. Now that week 5 is concluded we only have two more weeks before the competition comes to an end and the table is beginning to take shape.
Day one almost went entirely as expected with the top two teams taking home the win and the bottom two falling flat. However, 6th place Team Allegiance buked the trend by overcoming 5th place Evil Geniuses putting the two teams level on wins and losses. And with CLG knocking Renegades down to 4th, the mid-table battle is looking good going into match day 2. E6 kept up the momentum from their win over CLG last week and took the only clean sweep of the day with a 3-0 victory over team Liquid propelling them into third place. Unfortunately, this week the fans were deprived of statistically the best player in the league, Royal 2. This lead CLG to pick up Rammyy as a sub who had performed so well last week with Team Allegance. Needless to say this caused a bit of a dispute between the two teams. The one thing that is clear is Rammyy certainly seems to have a future in the Pro League. Whether that is to be with his own team “French Toast Mafia” currently top seed in the open circuit, or with one of the current pro teams keen to snap him up.
It’s also worth mentioning that because Rammyy is playing for CLG this weekend he will not be representing FTM, which means they need a Sub and none other than Legendary player OGRE2 has agreed to fill in! So if you get a chance you may want to check out their match this Sunday.
Day two provided something of a last chance for Team Liquid to pull themselves out of the relegation zone in a match against Team allegiance. Liquid took the first two games with conviction but Allegance proved too strong and came back to take the series 3-2 leaving Team Liquid in a difficult situation. The same can be said for Optic Gaming who have also cemented their spot in the bottom two with a loss to Renegades. This has been the most surprising campaign of the league given Optics pedigree in Halo e-Sports. If they were to win their remaining 4 games and other results went their way, then maybe they will avoid relegation. Only time will tell. Enigma 6 took their second clean sweep of the week with a 3-0 domination of Evil Geniuses, with Huke and bubu dubu in this kind of form they seem unstoppable.
The headline act of the week was no doubt going to be the rematch between League leaders CLG and 2nd place Team Envyus. If Envyus won the match they would put themselves level with CLG at the top of the table. When these teams met last week Counter Logic Gaming won the series by only 2 kills in a nail biting series which went down to the wire. So how did this week pan out? Well it turns out that last week simply was a bad one from CLG and this week they have returned to form. Despite substituting Royal 2 for Rammy they came out on top. The match was close, with the pivotal 3rd match producing another slayer win for CLG by a margin of only 2 kills. The series ended with Fathem CTF and it was a fairly conclusive performance from CLG showing that they really are the best.
Next week has some exciting mid table match ups and the top of the table plays the bottom.
I predict the top 3 teams will pick up two easy wins while the next 3 teams fight it out for 4th place. Things don’t look good for our relegation candidates with some tough games ahead. Hopefully we will see some upsets which build the tension going into the final week. Make sure to tune in next week on Twitch or head over to Halo.gg on Thursday and Friday at 5pm (PT).
