This time last year, everyone was talking about the Essential Phone. Andy Rubin’s first smartphone promised to be quite an amazing one. Unfortunately for the start-up company, things didn’t work out quite as well as they first imagined. The Essential Phone, also known as the PH-1 might be a great handset, however, it didn’t manage to become just as popular as some thought it would be. This is somewhat due to the fact that the company didn’t deliver at the pace they promised, instead, the release of the smartphone was slow and upset a lot of possible customers. Hopefully, this will change in the case of the Essential Phone 2, which is reportedly already in the works.
It would only be natural to see a second model launch a year after the first did. Even so, we know only a little about the upcoming Essential Phone. We do know that it is in the works, however, we don’t have a confirmed launch date. We can only assume that Essential won’t stand around too much and that the company will launch the Essential Phone 2 in approximately the same time-frame as last year. This means that we should shortly see the first teasers and the Essential Phone 2 should launch in May at the latest. Of course, there will be another few weeks before the new model will actually hit the stores. After all, there still are markets that didn’t get to welcome the Essential Phone PH-1.
The Essential Phone 2 will probably be built with the same high-end materials. Even though the PH-1 was the first one to sport the strange- looking camera notch, we could see the second model ditch this feature. Instead, the Essential Phone 2 could feature a pop-up camera. Essential was already granted such a patent, so they could use it anytime. Of course, it is also possible that just like in the case of many other patents, the pop-up camera on the Essential Phone 2 won’t become a reality. The company could also go with a camera that will be mounted on the handset. Naturally, it’s also possible that the design of the Essential Phone 2 will be really similar to the one of the first model and Essential will keep its signature camera notch.
Given the fact that the first Essential Phone came with the most powerful chipset under its hood and some other quite impressive features, we expect the Essential Phone 2 to be just as great, hopefully even greater. This means that the Essential Phone 2 should have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and it should include at least 6GB of RAM, possibly even 8GB of memory. Naturally, a serious amount of internal storage would also be nice.
Unfortunately, it’s safe to assume that the Essential Phone 2 will have a rather high price tag. Then again, the first model got some serious price cuts, so Essential might actually reconsider the pricing of its upcoming device. Hopefully, we will hear more about the second Essential Phone in the upcoming weeks. We are eager to see what the company prepares for us and what the Essential Phone 2 will be like.
