Everyone thought that Samsung or Apple will be the first ones to launch a smartphone with an under-screen fingerprint sensor. Surprisingly, this was not the case, as Vivo took the first device of this kind to the market. To be more specific, it’s not literally on the market yet, but it is coming. The Vivo X20 Plus UD was first showed off at CES 2018. Now, it seems that it will officially launch next week, namely on January 25. While the under-screen fingerprint sensor is definitely a new feature, the Vivo X20 Plus UD is actually the same device as the Vivo X20 Plus, only without a visible fingerprint sensor on the back.
The Vivo X20 Plus UD features a 6.43-inch display with a 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it hides a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB internal storage. This was also the case with the Vivo X20 Plus that launched back in September. The new handset also keeps the previous model’s dual rear cameras and 12MP selfie camera. Naturally, the 3.900mAh battery, the microUSB 2.0 port, and the Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity remain too. Unfortunately, it seems that there will be no change in the operating system either. if we are to believe the rumors, the Vivo X20 Plus UD will still run Android Nougat out of the box. An upgrade to Android Oreo would have been nice.
As it was already stated, the Vivo X20 Plus UD is expected to make its official debut on January 25. The leakster that revealed the information also shared pricing details. According to Zyad Atef, the under-screen fingerprint model will sell for CNY3,998. This translates into around $625 or €510. Unfortunately, the source did not mention when and where the new handset will become available for purchase. Hopefully, it will reach several markets so everyone can enjoy it.
