Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 845 chipset at the company’s second annual Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii. While the company did not reveal too many details related to the new mobile platform, they did mention that the Snapdragon 845 is built on the same 10 nm process technology like the Snapdragon 835, the flagship chipset of this year. At the same event, Qualcomm and Xiaomi representatives also confirmed that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7 will feature the brand new chipset. In fact, it will be among the first models to get it. We already knew that the first batch of the new mobile platform model will power the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset will most likely be a more powerful version of the current Snapdragon star, the 835. What is new is that this particular model will also be able to power laptops and convertibles. This means that we will see this chipset quite a lot in the next year. The chipset will run ASUS, HP, and Samsung devices. Also, it is quite interesting that portable devices that will sport Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipsets will run Windows 10. The company will further detail the features of the new SoC today, in a special keynote, dedicated to the new mobile platform.
As of Tuesday, we have a pretty clear idea on which devices will get the new Qualcomm chipset next year. The Xiaomi Mi 7 flagship is one of them, as it seems. Unfortunately, we don’t have many details concerning Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone just yet. The Xiaomi Mi 7 will definitely be a powerful handset with the Snapdragon 845 on board, and it will most likely include an impressive amount of memory and internal storage too. It’s highly likely that this model will also embrace the all-screen design we’ve seen this year and the 18:9 aspect ratio. Besides these, it will probably hold some surprises too.
We will get to see the first smartphone models that sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 in the first quarter of 2018. The Xiaomi Mi 7 could launch only in April but hopefully, it will be worth waiting for it. The Xiaomi Mi 6 was a great handset, and we expect the Xiaomi Mi 7 to be just as good.
