Many Samsung Galaxy Edge- series users just loved the Edge Lighting feature. Even though it is available on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the feature doesn’t seem to work fine. Several users complained over the past weeks about the Edge Lighting not working at all on their Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or working only with certain apps. Some people probably just didn’t make the necessary settings to enable the Edge Lighting feature, however, this doesn’t seem to be the only problem. Several users enabled the feature correctly and it still doesn’t work. It’s not quite clear yet whether Samsung will address this problem soon or not. If it does, the fix will most likely come via a Samsung Apps update.
Normally, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Edge Lighting feature should light up the edge of the screen whenever the screen is turned off or when the smartphone is placed face down and the screen is off. The feature should also light up the edge screen when the display is on if users choose to have the feature always on. Unfortunately, many users reported that the Edge Lighting won’t do a thing when the display is off or the always on display is on. The screen just won’t light up. Others reported that on their Samsung Galaxy Note 8 smartphone the Edge Lighting doesn’t work at all, no matter if the display is on or off, or if they place the handset face down.
According to some users, the Edge Lighting only works with apps that allow pop-ups. One particular user stated that when it enabled pop-ups on WhatsApp, the Edge Lighting worked perfectly. The feature also seems to work with stock messaging apps, and Facebook for some users. The majority of people who said the Edge lighting works perfectly on their Samsung Galaxy Note 8 use T-Mobile. It is possible that the feature doesn’t work on certain carriers only, however, no one confirmed this.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Edge Lighting feature is definitely a useful one if you can get it to work fine. The edge screen will light up whenever you get a phone call, a message or other notifications from your contacts. users should even be able to set up different colors the screen should light in for up to five contacts. Unfortunately, the majority of people can’t even get the feature to light up in a single color when the display is off. It seems to be working when the display is on, but then again, what is the point in having lighting notifications if you can’t see them when the screen of the smartphone is off?
Those who didn’t get the chance to try out this feature on their Samsung Galaxy Note 8 yet definitely should. In order to enable the Edge Lighting correctly, users need to go through the following steps. In Settings, users should search for and select Edge Lighting. To turn the feature on, they only need to touch the slider. Turning it off works the same way. Users can choose whether they want to turn the feature on only when the screen is on, when it is off, or to have it always turned on. After enabling the feature, users also need to choose which apps they want to receive lighting notifications from. They will find the list of the available apps in the Notifications settings and they can toggle all the apps they want.
The feature might work fine for some, but the majority of people seem to be struggling with it, unfortunately. Hopefully, Samsung will soon fix the issue and roll out a software update so that everyone will be able to enjoy the Edge Lighting feature they paid for. The same feature worked perfectly on Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S7 Edge, so it’s quite unclear why it doesn’t work on the Galaxy Note 8 also.
