Xiaomi recently announced it’s new bezel- less smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. Today, the handset was on flash sale for the first time. Surprisingly, or not, all units sold out in less than a minute. To be more exact, it took only 58 seconds for customers to buy all the available units. It’s not clear how many smartphones were in stock, but we assume it wasn’t a really small number of units. Those who didn’t get the chance to buy a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 today can try again on September 19, when Xiaomi will offer it again.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 may be a powerful device with high- end specs but it first impresses with its bezel- less design. Its predecessor already had really thin bezels and the current model has even slimmer ones. The only thicker bezel is on the bottom of the smartphone, where users will find the front- facing camera. According to some, it’s quite unnatural for the selfie camera to be on the bottom of the handset, however, thanks to this design, Xiaomi didn’t have to cut out a piece of the display as Essential did with its PH-1 smartphone. The 5.99-inch LCD display has a 2160×1080 pixels resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Ths means it is a little narrower than last year’s model.
The brand new Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 comes with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, just like the majority of flagship phones that launched this year. It includes 6GB or 8GB of RAM, depending on the storage option. Speaking of storage, the handset offers 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi smartphone doesn’t have a microSD card slot, so users won’t be able to expand the flash storage of the device. Having this in mind, users should opt for larger amounts of storage instead of the 64GB.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 features a single primary camera with a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor, 1.25μm pixel size, and f/2.0 aperture. On the front, users will find the 5MP sensor on the bottom bezel. The bezel-less handset comes with a 3,400mAh battery and runs out of the box. Xiaomi’s operating system is based on the Android 7 Nougat. It’s not clear whether or when the Xiaomi handset will get the Android 8reo update. Even without it, it is a nice handset.
The base model’s price is 3,299RMB, which translates into $504. For 3,500RMB ($534) customers can get their hands on the 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage version. Those who go the extra mile and opt for the 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage version of the handset will need to pay 4,699RMB ($718). There is also a version of the handset that includes 6GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. This sells for 3,999RMB, or $611.
