Now that the majority of flagship smartphones launched, all we have to wait for is the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2. The stock Android running handsets were expected to launch on October 5. According to the latest rumors, Google will actually unveil its smartphones one day earlier, on October 4. A Google billboard in Boston is the one that suggests this launch date. The billboard doesn’t actually say that October 4 is the day Google will unveil the new handsets. Even so, it’s safe to assume that the “Ask more of your phone” slogan hints towards the upcoming Google PIxel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2. Aside from the slogan, the billboard only contains the company’s logo and a date. October 4th.
Last year’s Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL became very popular. This was mainly due to the operating system of the handsets. Of course, they also had some powerful specs, including flagship processors, enough memory to make them really fast and reliable. The design of the smartphones was interesting with its glass and metal back, however, it wasn’t groundbreaking. The bezels of the devices were still rather thick, making them look a little dated. The upcoming models will most likely have slimmer bezels and the glass portion of the back cover also got smaller, according to rumors.
Under the hood, the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2 will once again sport the current flagship chipset, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835. Some rumors suggested that they could come with the Snapdragon 836, but we now know this isn’t true. HTC will most likely manufacture the Google Pixel 2 and LG will deliver the Pixel XL 2. While the smaller Pixel 2 will sport a 5-inch display, the XL version of the handset will have a larger, 6-inch screen. Naturally, both handsets will run Android Oreo out of the box. it will most likely be the Android 8.1 version. Rumor also had it that the Google Pixel 2 will feature Active Edge, something similar to the Edge Sense feature of the HTC U11.
The Google Pixel 2 will probably have a rather high price, however, it will definitely not be as expensive as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone X are. There still are a few weeks to go until the launch of Google’s new smartphones, so we will probably find out more about them before the launch event.
