Rumors regarding Apple’s upcoming flagship, the iPhone 8, surface daily. Even though at first they some of them seemed to contradict the others, now they mostly point towards the same handset. We do know a lot about the design of the new iPhone and we also know that it will be more powerful than the current Apple handsets. While Apple wanted to make it even greater than it will be, it seems that the company didn’t manage to deliver all it wanted to. Instead, it needed to make some compromises. One of them regards the Touch ID feature of the handset. Apple really wanted to embed this feature into the touchscreen of the smartphone but it seems it didn’t manage to do so. Instead, according to some, it placed the sensor in the sleep/ wake button. Others think that they ditched it altogether.
Recently, it was disclosed that the iPhone 8 will feature face recognition. This is a new feature for Apple, but we did see it in Samsung devices already. The South Korean company usually equips its handsets with both a facial recognition feature and a fingerprint sensor. Naturally, we thought that Apple will do the same. According to a case manufacturer, we might have been wrong. Even though the sleep/ wake button is larger now, so it could host the Touch ID, Apple could rely only on facial recognition when it comes to the security of the iPhone 8. The company might simply ditch the Touch ID for now. This is rather surprising, but it definitely is a possibility.
The iOS 11 the iPhone 8 will be running has some features strictly related to Touch ID. It’s hard to imagine that Apple would have worked so much on a software that won’t have anything to work with. Of course, the new version of the operating system will reach older models too. These all feature Touch ID so they will be able to use the new features. Even so, it’s strange that Apple would give up on the Touch ID altogether. I personally think that the Cupertino- based company will squeeze in the fingerprint sensor in the plan after all. It won’t be beneath the display, as it planned to, but it will probably be present somewhere on the phone. Of course, facial recognition is enough to ensure the safety of iPhone users’ data. Even so, having an iPhone without a fingerprint sensor would just seem awkward.
