Apple has been working on the iOS 11 for a while now. Beta versions of the software have already been tested by some, and the new version of the operating system will arrive in September. Naturally, the new software will have some new features to offer. Probably one of the most interesting new features brought by the iOS 11 will be the SOS. Users will be able to quickly access emergency services in case they need them. Of course, dialing 911 is already a quick way to call emergency services, however, people might find themselves in the impossibility to do so. In these cases, iPhone users will be able to tap the on the sleep/wake button of their handsets five times and then choose from three possibilities: power off their phone, bring up their medical ID or call 911.
Even though this already is a good feature to have on an iPhone, by pressing the sleep/ wake button five times and then hit Cancel, users will also be able to temporarily disable Touch ID. At first glance, this features seems to be quite unimportant. Even so, in some cases, it can prove to be a handy one. For example, in the case of a robbery, users can block their handsets this way. The robber won’t be able to force the user to unlock the handset with their fingerprint. Instead, the device’s passcode will be the only way to unlock the handset. If the user doesn’t want to disclose the code, the robbers won’t be able to unlock the handset.
Of course, some people might find this feature useful in the case of an arrest too. However, denying the authorities to access your handset isn’t always the best idea, so we will salute Apple for implementing this feature as a measure to protect users from robbers. The great thing is that robbers won’t even be able to tell that the user disabled the Touch ID this way, as it leaves no marks. The feature will definitely become available on all iPhone handsets running iOS 11. Apple will probably release the latest version of its operating system alongside the iPhone 8, iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus in September. Until then, only those who take part of the beta testing can gain access to this feature.
