Motorola has a full year ahead. The company is planning on releasing no less than nine new handsets this year. Two of them, as we already reported, are the company’s budget phones, the Moto C and the Moto C Plus. Another two we’ve already heard of before are the Z Play and the Z Force. There will also be a moto E4 and a Moto E4 Plus, a Moto GS, and a Moto GS Plus. Thankfully, after a rather long break, the Moto X4, or Moto X 2017 also surfaced. Finally, we get back the X-series smartphones. Smartphone, to be more exact. It looks like this time around, Motorola will only release one X smartphone, and it will be called the Moto X4.
The leaks suggest that the Moto X 2017 will have a full metal body and a glass front, so it should be the most beautiful Moto device this year. The Moto X4 will definitely look similar to the previously released Moto G5. It will have rather slim bezels on the side and slightly thicker ones on the upper and lower side. On the bottom of the device, users will reportedly find a fingerprint sensor, embedded into the home button. The surprise in terms of design comes when we turn the handset around. According to the leaked presentation slide and images of the smartphone, the Moto X4 will sport a dual rear camera setup. The handset has an IP68 rating, so it will be dust and water resistant.
The Moto X 2017 will come with a 5.2-inch display. Although some people would have expected a larger, 5.5-inch display from Motorola’s premium model, the 5.2-inch display will make it easier to handle one-handed. So, after all, this could prove to be a plus, not a minus. The display will be a FullHD one, so the image quality should be quite a good one. Of course, if we compare it to other flagships that offer higher resolution displays, it’s not that impressive. However, probably the price of the Moto X4 won’t be as high as that of the current flagship smartphones on the market.
Back to the cameras, we will have to take a wild guess when it comes to their lenses. Given the fact that the Moto G5 comes with a 12MP rear camera and the Z has a 13MP back snapper, it’s safe to assume that at least on of the two rear cameras of the moto X4 will have a 12MP or a 13MP sensor. We could see two identical lenses, or a 12MP or 13MP one paired with a weaker camera. On the front, we will most likely find an 8M selfie camera. It is also possible that there will only be a 5MP selfie camera, but that isn’t certain yet.
Under the hood, the Moto X4 will reportedly have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset and an Adreno 512 GPU. It will include 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The handset will probably feature a microSD card slot too, so users will be able to further expand their storage by up to 256GB. As for the battery that will provide the energy for the handset, it seems it will be a 3,800mAh one. This is quite a massive battery by today’s standards.
Even though the exact release date of the handset is not known yet, given the fact that the Moto X4 seems to be almost ready to launch, it’s safe to assume it will be announced soon, and that the handset will become available sometime this summer. A July release date seems to be the most plausible at this point, with an announcement of the handset preceding it. Unfortunately, we have no information regarding the pricing of the handset. However, based on the spec sheet of the device, a starting price of under $500 seems to be a safe bet. The Moto X4 might be the “ultimate perfection” model for Motorola, but it really is a mid-range smartphone. In this case, a price of around $500 seems to be fair.
