Motorola seems to be on fire these days. Lenovo’s company is going to release a great number of devices this year, including Z-series, E-series, X-series, G-series, devices. Two of the most surprising devices of the company are the new C-series entries, the Moto C and the Moto C Plus. These are Motorola’s budget phones. And when we say budget phones, we mean it. Both the Moto C and the Moto C Plus come with seriously low price tags. The smaller version’s price starts at 89 euros, which translates into $98. If that isn’t a small price for a smartphone, then we don’t know what is. The C Plus is also extremely cheap, with a $131 starting price.
Of course, the small price also means not-so-terrific specs. Then again, no reasonable person would expect high-end features from a budget smartphone. The Motorola Moto C will have a 5-inch display with a rather low 854×480-pixel resolution. We have to admit, we haven’t seen such a resolution for a long time now. Even so, for an entry-level smartphone, it should be enough. After all, those who opt for cheap smartphones shouldn’t expect a great image quality. However, I think that a 720p resolution would have been a better choice.
The design of the handset is similar to the one other Moto devices show off. The rounded corners and the rather slim side bezels turn this smartphone into a nice-looking one. Just like on any other 2017 Moto handset, the camera is placed in a round home, just above the flashlight. Speaking of the camera, the Moto C will sport a 5MP back snapper and a 2MP front-facing one for selfies. They might not be suitable for taking professional pictures, but they will be able to capture the important moments of the users’ lives.
Under the hood, there is a quad-core Mediatek MT6737M chipset, clocked at 1.1GHz. The handset only includes 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Thankfully, the latter can be further expanded thanks to the microSD card slot of the phone. However, don’t expect too much from this feature, it only supports up to 32GB of extra storage. Even so, given the fact that the smartphone mostly aims children and people who don’t really need a powerful smartphone they can watch videos on, it should be enough. The Motorola Moto C features a 2,350mAh battery. This is quite a small one, but if we look at the other specs and features of the smartphone, we can assume that it will be able to take users through the day on a single charge.
When it comes to the software, the Moto C compensates a little for its shortcomings with the latest Android Nougat operating system. At least this feature is not an outdated one. Users will benefit from everything Google’s operating system has to offer, providing a good user experience. Naturally, the handset also offers Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. Also, users will find on the handset an FM radio and GPS. The smartphone will be available in three color variants: Starry Black, Fine Gold, and Metallic Cherry.
The Moto C Plus will be a lot like the smaller Moto C, but it will have a larger display, a bigger battery, and a more advanced camera. We don’t have an exact release date for the Moto C and the Moto C Plus. What we know is that Motorola stated they will become available this spring. Given the fact that we are already in mid-May, it’s safe to assume the budget phones will make an appearance soon enough. The handsets will launch in Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific countries.
