The developers for last year’s PlayStation 4 exclusive Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture have been teasing that they have been working on a new game for a while, but we have received no information regarding what the game actually is. Well, we still don’t have any concrete details from the devs, but it looks like the announcement is coming sometime soon. The Chinese Room took to Twitter recently to reveal that their follow-up to Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture will be announced within “the next couple of weeks.” This would suggest that the game reveal will happen sometime in late February or early March, if they stick with this timeframe.
Even though we have no information on the actual game, The Chinese Room were willing to dish out some details regarding the release method for the game. While Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture was published by Sony when it was released for PlayStation 4, the devs have revealed that their next game will not have a publisher. A reason for this was not given, but they did reveal that this will allow them much more freedom with the actual development of the game and where they bring it to. This likely means that the game will come to platforms outside of PlayStation, such as Xbox and PC. They also mentioned they have full freedom to release their own merchandise as they own the IP, informing their Twitter followers that, “if you want t-shirts, special editions, vinyl, graphics novel, actual novel etc – let us know.”
For those unfamiliar with the game, here’s a description provided by The Chinese Room: “Deep within the Shropshire countryside, the village of Yaughton stands empty. Toys lie forgotten in the playground, the wind blows quarantine leaflets around the silent churchyard. Down on Appleton’s farm, crops rustle untended, the early harvest abandoned halfway through. The birds lie where they have fallen. A pair of shoes hang from the overhead wires. The windmill continues to turn unobserved. Strange voices haunt the radio waves as uncollected washing hangs listlessly on the line. There is light in the wires. The televisions are tuned to vacant channels. Above it all, the telescopes of the Observatory point out at dead stars and endless darkness. And someone remains behind, to try and unravel the mystery.
Immerse yourself in a rich, deep adventure from award-winning developer The Chinese Room and investigate the last days of Yaughton Valley. Uncover the traces of the vanished community; discover fragments of events and memories to piece together the mystery of the apocalypse.”
