It’s going to be several months before western audiences get to check out Yakuza: Kiwami 2, but Japanese audiences won’t have to wait much longer. The game launches next month in Japan, and now the very first review has surfaced thank to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu.
Issue 1513 of the magazine gave Yakuza: Kiwami 2 a 37/40, which is a very impressive score. For those who aren’t aware, Famitsu takes four different reviewers and has each one of them score the game out of 10, adding up to a total of 40. In the case of how each reviewer from the publication scored the game, the reviewers scored the game 9, 10, 9 and 9.
Yakuza: Kiwami 2 serves as the second remake that the series has seen, though it will be the first remake that utilizes the same Dragon Engine as the upcoming Yakuza 6. The game continues the adventures of protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, and the shady business that he gets himself wrapped up in. It looks like Famitsu felt that the sequel was better than the first remake, as the first one received a 34/40 from the publication.
Yakuza: Kiwami 2 will launch exclusively for PlayStation 4 in Japan on December 7, with the western release set for some time in 2018. That won’t be the only game in the series that will be releasing next year, as Yakuza 6 is also set to launch on March 20. We’ll keep you updated as more information on both games surfaces over the next several months.
