Yooka-Laylee made a splash when it launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC earlier this year, though it’s set to be coming to a new platform very soon. Today developer Playtonic Games has revealed that Yooka-Laylee will be coming to Switch soon, with the release date being set for December 14 and pre-orders going live on December 7.
While many were hoping for improvements with load times on the Switch version considering that it is cartridge-based rather than disk-based, it looks like there will be plenty of other improvements as well. The developer promises that there will be a “shed-load of polish and updates,” which could very likely end up making this the definitive version of the game.
The developer claims that “Players can expect a quality experience both on and away from the television and on top of that, Switch players will benefit from the huge list of updates we’ve added since launch such as a brand new camera mode, control improvements, menu options, music… and a lot more!”
Yooka-Laylee launched in April of this year to generally positive reviews across the board, with many agreeing that it successfully recaptures that Banjo-Kazooie gameplay from the 90s. However, that’s not to say that the game was perfect, as many noted some technical issues that brought the game down a few notches. Hopefully these issues will be ironed out by the time the Switch version releases, and Nintendo fans will have yet another solid game to play this year.
