We still have over a month to wait before the highly-anticipated Super Mario Odyssey launches for the Nintendo Switch, but now the ESRB has officially released its summary of the game. The game has received an E10+ rating, which was due to cartoon violence and comic mischief. This is about what you would expect from a Mario game, so no big surprises here.
The company also released their overall summary of the game, which describes the game and the situations that garnered the E10+ rating. The following is the complete summary:
“This is an action platformer in which players assume the role of Mario as he embarks on a quest to rescue a princesses from the villain Bowser. As players run and jump through themed 3D environments, they can hop on enemies’ heads and/or use a cap to defeat them. Most characters react to damage with blinking effects, comical yelps, cowering gestures, or by turning into coins. During one boss encounter, players can capture a “cartoony” tank and fire cannonballs at a mechanical boss; large explosions are depicted as the boss is defeated. In another sequence, Mario lands several punches against a boss character; action is highlighted by impact sounds and screen-shaking effects. In a lunch-themed level, a giant bird-like creature spits out a trail of pink soup (and other food items) towards the player.”
Mario’s upcoming adventure has garnered a lot of positive buzz immediately following its announcement earlier this year. There have been several opportunities for press and fans to test the game out for themselves, and the consensus seems to be that Nintendo has come up with another winner. This will be the first game in the series to return to the more open and exploration-based gameplay since the early 2000s, which is definitely exciting for longtime fans of the series. We recently got some new footage from the game during Gamescom 2017 that showed off a new area, which is definitely worth checking out.
Super Mario Odyssey is set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on October 27th, marking the character’s first main adventure on the console.
