Nintendo recently held a Gamescom 2017 live steam, and during it we got to check out some brand new gameplay from the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey. The footage in question is taken from a new level called Luncheon Kingdom, which you can see in action at the bottom of this post. The footage starts around the 8-minute mark and ends around the the 15-minute mark.
The footage shown definitely looks solid, with the level design being very colorful and vibrant. We get to take a look at some of the characters that are featured in the level, as well as the level-specific gameplay twists. The game continues to impress with each new video released, and it won’t be much longer until everyone finally gets to play the finished product.
The Mario series has undergone many innovations throughout the years, and that will be no different with Odyssey. However, this game will actually be marking a return to open-ended and exploration-based gameplay, which is something that the series kicked off with in Super Mario 64. This is a move that long-time fans of the series are thrilled about, as many consider Super Mario 64 to be the best game of the series.
The buzz for the game has been overwhelmingly positive ever since it was first revealed earlier this year. The game was a massive hit during E3 2017, with the game being the most popular game of the show on social media. There really hasn’t been any negativity at all pointed towards the game, so hopefully the finished product can match the hype and deliver another classic Mario game.
Super Mario Odyssey will launch exclusively for Switch on October 27th. Be sure to check out the new gameplay footage below.
