Nintendo recently revealed its financial results for the first quarter of the current fiscal year, which revealed how their latest console has been doing in the sales department. Things are continuing to go well for the Switch, with it being revealed that the console has shipped 4.70 million units as of June 2017.
The console shipped nearly 2 million units between April 1st and June 30th, with 8.14 million software units being shipped to retailers. The company revealed that they are still aiming to ship 12.74 million units by March 31st, 2018, which would result in 10 million units being sold during the current fiscal year. If it were to reach that number, then that means it would have nearly matched the Wii U’s lifetime sales in just one year.
We also got updates for the other Nintendo consoles, with the 3DS reaching 67.08 million units with 335.10 million software units. It sold 0.95 million units for hardware and 5.85 million units for software during the period mentioned above, which are pretty solid numbers considering the console’s age. The Wii U’s overall numbers didn’t change much, with hardware being at 13.56 million units and software being at 99.97 million units.
The Switch has been a big success for Nintendo so far, though the sales of the console likely could be significantly higher if they provided enough supply to meet demand. The console is regularly sold out everywhere, with people having to resort to paying more than the market value in order to get one. This will likely lead to the sales remaining strong, and the release of Super Mario Odyssey and the Christmas season are sure to bring in huge numbers for Nintendo later this year.
The Switch launched in March and sold 2.74 million units in its first month, with sales being boosted greatly by the simultaneous release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Since then the console has received a steady stream of solid games, giving it a year one lineup that easily eclipses what the Wii U’s year one lineup looked like.
