While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered launched last year alongside Infinite Warfare, it was only available to those who purchased the special editions of that game. This was a move that many weren’t a fan of, especially when considering that many weren’t a fan of Infinite Warfare either. Well, those who have been waiting for the standalone release won’t have to wait much longer.
Activision has announced today that Modern Warfare Remastered will release on PlayStation 4 next week, with the release on PC and Xbox One coming at an unspecified later date. It will be the same version of the game that released with Infinite Warfare last year, coming with the full remastered campaign and 16 multiplayer maps. It will cost $39.99.
Modern Warfare was the moment when then Call of Duty series truly became the phenomenon that is today, bringing the setting into the modern era and stepping up the gameplay and cinematics to new heights. It was truly one of the best shooters of the 2000s, and received two sequels due to its staggering success. In fact, most people who got Modern Warfare Remastered with Infinite Warfare last year ended up ditching Infinite Warfare pretty quickly and instead invested most of their gaming time into the remaster.
The Call of Duty series will be returning to its roots later this year, with WWII getting rid of the futuristic aspects of recent installments entirely. The response to the footage shown from the game so far has been very positive, and hopefully the finished product gets the series back on the right track. The game is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, who also developed the first truly futuristic entry in the series called Advanced Warfare. Call of Duty: WWII will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 3rd.
