The cutting room floor is often a fascinating place to be; perusing the ideas and designs that did not make the leap to the finished article can conjure mixed emotions. Capcom has showcased some of the character designs that were cut from Street Fighter V on its official blog – some were rightfully cut; others seem a shame to lose. There are some that seed out and out bizarre!
Takayuki Nakayama – the game’s director – gives some of his thoughts to the designs and explains why they didn’t make the cut. The ‘Fighting Literary Master’, for instance, because “the pen is not mightier than the sword in this game,” words of absolute truth no doubt – still, it’s a shame we didn’t get to play around with him as he looks fun. Other characters such as the ‘Clumsy Cutie’ seem a little less interesting – maybe a little eyebrow-raising – and were understandably let go…
Be sure to check out Capcom’s blog to see the full list of designs. Some designs will hopefully find a new home via DLC, or maybe in a new project, the director does go on to hint, “while these characters unfortunately didn’t make the cut, maybe they’ll make an appearance somewhere!?”
