Livelock is a top-down co-op shooter that was first introduced in January and promised a 2016 release date. Today the official release date was just announced by PlayStation via Twitter to be August 2nd. It’s set to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Livelock is being developed by Tuque Games and tasks you with stopping a long series of battles between machines and bringing back humanity. This can be done by playing as one of three capital intellects Hex, Vanguard, and Catalyst. Hex focuses on long range weapons, Vanguard gets up close and personal, and Catalyst utilizes drones on the battlefield.
Each character has a unique play-style and strategic play is emphasized. In co-op, players will use their characters’s different attributes to find the best way to take down waves of robots.
The developer is also keen on injecting a deeper story into the top-down shooter. Players will learn more about the cataclysmic event and how robots replaced humanity. Each character will also have a different personality as you fight your way through robots. Hex will always make it known that he is responsible for the kill while Vanguard is hesitant about killing and wonders about its true effects. Catalyst’s ideal approach is as an assistant and isn’t afraid to plan out her moves.
Livelock looks to bring a new approach to the top-down shooter by mixing strategic co-op play with the high action shoot-em-up that the genre is known for. Livelock will be $19.99 when it releases on August 2nd.
