Am I dreaming? Seriously, pinch me if I am. Does a console that comes pre-loaded with emulators and hundreds of pre-installed vintage games really exist? According to Dream Arcades Kickstarter page, it most certainly does. Built on Windows 10, the Dreamcade Replay is actually a series of three devices, all of which are equipped to run classic arcade and console titles to anything with an HDMI port. As a bonus, they can even support some lower end modern games and streaming services.
The first device in the series is the Dreamcade Replay Classic, which is essentially an Atari-styled device that functions as a mini-computer. This is the cheapest in the series of installments, and I say that lightly, since it carries a price tag of $269 for Kickstarter backers – not a small sum to say the least.
The Classic console comes with a wireless controller, but if you want to go even more retro the Dreamcade Replay Arcade Edition comes with an authentic arcade control gamepad that has Bluetooth capabilities. This edition will cost backers $399 while the campaign is still in motion.
And if that isn’t enough to satisfy your uber-retro desires, then the Dreamcade Retro Mobile is your baby. This third installment in the Dreamcade Replay Series is essentially a miniature arcade machine featuring an 8” IPS screen that can be plugged into any display with an HDMI port. This bad boy is a whopping $599 during the campaign – and that’s the discounted price for early backers.
The Dreamcade Replay Series is an exciting prospect for those who want all of their beloved classics in one place. Though the large price tags may turn some people off when there are other ways to get your vintage gaming on, the decision to purchase one of the installments ultimately comes down to the convenient and authentic experience that the Dreamcade Replay Series provides.
