Casting for The Witcher season 2 continues to be an exciting topic for fans, especially with today’s reveal that Natalie Dormer may play a role. The popular Netflix series debuted last December with an eight-episode first season. However, the story of Geralt of Rivia had existed for a long time before. The show is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series that was originally released in Poland in the 1990s. The Witcher TV series for Netflix is far from the first adaptation of the source material. The original story has been adapted into comics, a popular series of video games, and a separate TV show and movie in Poland.

Season 2 of The Witcher has been filming since last month. Since then, casting announcements and story details have slowly made their way onto the Internet. The series’ showrunner Lauren Hissrich has already promised fans that the season 2 timeline won’t be quite as confusing as season 1’s. However, that doesn’t mean The Witcher is hesitating to add new characters. It’s cast two more witchers, as well as an entire elf army, the Scoia’tael. Season 2 will feature one confirmed Games of Thrones actor: Kristofer Hivju, who will play Nivellen.

Now, it seems another GoT actor may be a part of The Witcher season 2 as well. Per fan site Redanian Intelligence, Natalie Dormer is rumored to have been cast in an unknown role. The report stems from Dormer being sighted close by where The Witcher is filming, accompanied by one of the show’s crew members. An individual involved with casting also linked Dormer to the series via social media. However, at this time, Dormer’s casting is far from confirmed.
Natalie Dormer is no stranger to the world of fantasy and franchises, having starred as Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones. She also played a role in the massively popular Hunger Games movies, appearing in the final two films as fan favorite Cressida. Dormer will next be seen in the Penny Dreadful spinoff Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, which premieres on Showtime this April. She’ll play a demon named Magda in the 1930s-set series, showing her preference for period pieces.
Prior to this news about Dormer’s possible casting in The Witcher, the performer already had a connection to the series. She and star Henry Cavill both appeared in The Tudors, though nearly a decade ago. It seems likely that, as filming on season 2 continues, Dormer’s rumored casting may become more of a sure thing. As The Witcher won’t return with new episodes until 2021, there’s plenty of time for fans to speculate on who Dormer may be playing, provided Netflix confirms her involvement.
