If you never tire of the cutesy, Animal-Crossing-esque side of Nintendo’s game library, then rejoice! The company has announced a brand new IP for the 3DS titled Ever Oasis.
The action-adventure-RPG-management sim is in development at Grezzo, who previously worked on several Zelda titles including Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora’s Mask 3D, as well as Triforce Heroes. Ever Oasis casts players as the explorer Tethu and his/her companion Isuna and tasks them with bringing life and prosperity to a desert oasis. The new title contains elements from numerous genre staples from Harvest Moon and Monster Hunter to Pokemon and Zelda.
Players can perform a multitude of activities like attracting and cultivating commerce in the oasis, as well as venturing out into the desert itself to explore dungeons, solve puzzles, forage for supplies and resources as well as take part in plethora of crafting and building activities. Teaming up with “wanderers” to tackle dungeons and exploration is also mentioned, but multiplayer functionality (currently) is not.
Ever Oasis has an interesting style themed around Egyptian culture and aesthetics. A majority of player’s undertakings revolve around literally “growing” assets from shops and decorations to even weapons and armor. It’s an especially welcome and fresh stylistic leap for Nintendo after the company’s last few similar titles have failed to land with critics and fans. (I’m looking at you, Happy Home Designer.) Here’s hoping Ever Oasis can pick up the slack.
A specific release date is unknown at the moment, but Ever Oasis is scheduled for release sometime in 2017.
