This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, making it two decades since the original series and set of games took the world by storm. I remember being fully immersed in the Pokemon world at that time, as both Pokemon Red and Blue (and Yellow not long afterwards) all offered fantastic RPG experiences. It may have had a distinctly kiddish exterior, but from the very beginning and to this day the main line of Pokemon games have a lot of great gameplay to offer. Nintendo is capitalizing on the 20th anniversary by releasing a New 3DS Bundle that comes packed with the first three games in the series.
Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Yellow all come pre-installed on the New 3DS and the bundle also includes two different cover plates: one featuring Blastoise and the other featuring the almighty Charizard. To make matters even better, those who own Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon Omega Ruby, Pokemon X or Pokemon Y will be able to visit their nearest GameStop to acquire several different Pokemon that will become available during the year’s events. The Pokemon that will be available are Arceus, Darkrai, Genesect and Mew.
The official Pokemon 20th Anniversary celebration will begin on February 27, which will also be the day that previously-mentioned bundle and amiibo go live. The same day will also see the launch of three new 2DS special edition bundles. These bundles include the 2DS system in either transparent red, blue or yellow and come pre-installed with the 3 games included in the 3DS bundle. These versions of the bundle will also come packed with 15 stickers to put on the system in any fashion you like, as well as a download code for a home menu theme that is also available for the 3DS bundle.
