Another team is dropping out of Nanyang Season 2, again for visa issues. Fnatic player DJ couldn’t obtain a visa to travel to Shanghai and play in the lan finals, and the same happened now to Suma1l, the Evil Geniuses midlaner. For this reason both teams will not be able to attend, and they have been both substituted with Chinese teams: LGD Gaming has been directly invited to take Fnatic place, while the Chinese qualifier has now an additional spot to fill EG‘s place.
The visa issue has been going on for quite some time in China and that is going to damage the Chinese Dota2 scene in the long run. European, American and SEA teams are going to take Chinese tournaments less seriously, and China risks to be left out from the international scene. The Shanghai Major has also been organised very poorly and the Chinese credibility keeps going down, while the Majors organised in Frankfurt and Manila ran very smoothly, confirming the reliability of Europe and the fast growing SEA region. I believe that the Nanyang organisers should have invited substitutes from the same regions of the teams that could not make it, instead of inviting Chinese teams.
The teams now taking part in Nanyang Season 2 are:
China – Newbee, LGD Gaming, Wings Gaming and one team that yet has to qualify
Europe – Team Secret, Team Empire
Americas – Digital Chaos
SEA – WarriorsGaming.Unity
The tournament will run between the 6th and the 10th of July and we are going to see a great showing of Dota2 even with the absence of EG and Fnatic. Keep following us for the full coverage of the tournament.
