While Destiny definitely wasn’t the game that most people were expecting when it launched, since then the game has received numerous updates and tweaks that have made it a better experience. The big one was last year’s The Taken King, which added tons of new content and gameplay tweaks and even replaced Peter Dinklage with Nolan North as the voice actor for the Ghost. Even still, the disappointing launch of the game resulted in many people ditching the game before it had a chance to improve, and that has troubled the game’s developer, Bungie.
Bungie has released a new survey that was brought to attention by Reddit user unknownRNG, which basically asked why the user hadn’t been playing the game lately and how likely the user is to return to the game in the future. As for what some of the answers to the survey are, they include the following:
- I don’t have anyone to play with
- I’ve run out of things to do
- Endgame content is too challenging
- I don’t like recent changes made to the game
- I don’t have enough time to play
- New games came out that I’d rather play
- I don’t own The Taken King
- Too much repetition and too much grinding
The fact that this survey is being sent out definitely hints that the player count for the game may be nose diving, though we don’t have official player count numbers to confirm or deny this. People definitely weren’t happy with how much DLC was required in order to get what they felt was a complete experience, and the constant information of more expansions and a Destiny 2 turned other people off entirely. I personally had a ton of fun with the game’s alpha and beta, but when the complete package didn’t offer a whole lot more compared to those spoonfuls of gameplay I was pretty disappointed. However, there is no questioning that Destiny has a great foundation with its gameplay mechanics. Hopefully it will be able to continue to improve and offer a more satisfying story, as well.
