HTC started rolling out the Android oreo upgrade to HTC U11 units a few weeks back in Taiwan. Thos in the US can also look out for the update starting today. The first ones who will get the Android Oreo upgrade are the HTC U11 unlocked units. Naturally, carrier models are next in line to receive the software update. The timeframe in which these updates will arrive mostly depends on how fast HTC will manage to work with different carriers. Probably, some will get the update sooner than others. Even so, in the end, the Android Oreo upgrade will reach all HTC U11 units in the US.
The information regarding the software update came from the company’s VP of Product Management Mo Versi via a Twitter post, last week. Those who own HTC U11 unlocked units can expect the update to become available for download starting today. Of course, the new version of the software will not reach every unit at the same time so some users might have to wait another few days to get the latest version of Google’s operating system. Carrier models will have to wait even longer, but they will get the long-awaited update soon too.
While Mo Versi did not mention the release date of the Android Oreo update for other models in his initial post, he did reveal some details as answers to other posts. From these, we can draw the conclusion that the HTC 10, the Ultra, and the U11 Life are also close to getting the software update. Unfortunately, he didn’t reveal an exact date when the company will start rolling out the Android Oreo to these models. In the worst case, they could get the update in the first quarter of next year, possibly even before the end of 2017.
Everyone is eagerly waiting for the Android Oreo update to reach their handsets. Manufacturers are all working on delivering the new software to their fans. Some of them move quicker, others a little slower. HTC seems to be on the right track, as it already released the update in its homeland, Taiwan, and the US is already getting the update too. Other regions are also going to welcome the software update soon.
