The Sony PlayStation VR headset launched last year and now it gets a design update. In the new model, the headphone jack is not on the wire hanging from the headset, instead, Sony moved it to the back of the gadget. The result is a cleaner and simpler design many will appreciate. The connection cable to the PlayStation 4 also got thinner and now goes perfectly with the upgraded Processor Unit. Another thing that changed is that users now won’t have to disconnect the unit in order to view HDR content on the PlayStation 4 console.
Even though Sony already unveiled the new model, called CUH – ZVR2, it will only become available for purchase later on. To be more exact, the tech company will release the new Sony PlayStation VR headset on October 14 in Japan. The unit will come in a bundle with the PlayStation Camera and it will cost ¥44,980, which translates into around $400. Unfortunately, Sony didn’t offer any information regarding the release date of the Sony PlayStation VR. It did mention, however, that the price of the bundle won’t change when it reaches other regions too.
In the same press release, Sony also mentioned that in order for customers to be able to get their hands on the new Sony PlayStation VR headset, the company will expand its domestic sales handling shops from 394 stores to 913 stores. Naturally, the new model is compatible with all content made for PlayStation VR before. Other titles will follow soon, as Sony is working on delivering the best user experience possible for its fans. Video services and video contents such as “NewsVR” and “JAPAN Studio VR Music Festival” will also get to the Sony PlayStation VR soon.
Even though Sony did not reveal a US release date for the new Sony PlayStation VR headset, it’s safe to assume that the company will try to deliver the new units to several markets before the holiday season. This kind of gadgets make perfect gifts and the tech company most likely knows this. We will keep an eye on the new product and let you know as soon as we find out more about its global launch.
