The Apple iPhone 8 is without a doubt one of the most expected smartphone models of this year. It is one of the three iPhone models to launch in 2017. The iPhone 8 is actually the handset that will mark the 10th anniversary of iPhone. The new model definitely got far from the first one, but this is no surprise. After all, it’s been ten years since the launch of the first iPhone device. Technology has come a long way since then, and the iPhone 8 will certainly be a great example for what it has to offer now. Even so, today we will only take a look at the handset’s design, not its specs too.
First of all, the iPhone 8 will have a lot slimmer bezels than previous models did. This time around, users will get an almost edge-to-edge screen. Naturally, this means that Apple managed to squeeze the screen into a smaller body than before. It also has an interesting top sensor protrusion coming down from the top of the handset, biting out a bit of the screen. It’s not clear yet whether Apple will make use of the space next to the sensors in a special way or the screen will actually go all the way up. It could use this space as a notification bar so it won’t take up any more space under these sensors.
Thankfully, the new design also brings along a much better screen-to-body ratio. Ths wasn’t exactly a strong point of iPhones before. The Apple iPhone 8’s display has a 5.8-inch diagonal, however, its body is actually smaller than the one of the iPhone 7 Plus. This way, it will be easier to handle one- handed and it will also be more comfortable to carry around. It might actually fit into a pocket. The edge-to-edge display also has its downsides. Due to the new design, the iPhone 8 could become more fragile than the previous models were. Then again, the great looks are definitely worth being more careful when using the upcoming Apple flagship. The glass back, which will also be present in this year’s model is already quite fragile. Dropping this handset will probably mean the end of its life as you know it. Then again, without the glass back, the iPhone 8 could not support wireless charging.
The camera bump on the back is pretty big, unfortunately. While it won’t bother some people, others might get frustrated by the fact that the handset won’t sit flat on its back. The camera sensors also got a new orientation and are now placed vertically, one above the other. Between the sensors, there is the flashlight. The buttons also changed a little bit compared to last year’s model. While they are mostly in the same place, they are bigger now. Previous rumors suggested that Apple might place the fingerprint sensor in the power button, however, it seems that it won’t be the case after all. It’s not quite clear yet whether Apple will opt for the facial recognition feature instead of the fingerprint sensor or will deliver both.
One thing is sure: the overall look and feel of the Apple iPhone 8 will be more premium than the ones offered by previous models. The new design is a lot more modern, making the handset look more suitable for 2017. After all, even mid- range handsets nowadays have more modern looks than last year’s iPhones. Edge-to-edge screens are a must have and Apple finally seems to get it. Losing the thick bezels is probably one of the best things that could happen with the iPhone’s design.
