The OnePlus 5 will officially launch in a few days. There still are a few months until the iPhone 8 will be unveiled, however. Thanks to leaksters, we know a lot about both handsets. They have at least one thing in common: they will be amazing. The new smartphones will offer some really impressive processing power, and they will reportedly also come with renewed designs. While the OnePlus 5 will supposedly look a lot like the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 will not. Let’s see what we know so far about these handsets and try to figure out which one will be the best smartphone of this year.
OnePlus 5
The OnePlus 5 should have actually been the OnePlus 4. However, due to certain issues of the Chinese culture with the number four, OnePlus decided to go directly to the number 5. This year, it seems that the Chinese company prepared something truly special for its customers and fans. Even though previous models looked really much like each other, the OnePlus 5 will reportedly bring a major design change. Instead of looking like the OnePlus 3T, the OP 5 will actually resemble the iPhone 7 Plus. A lot. The handset will most likely have a metal body, with a dual rear camera sensor and a front-mounted fingerprint sensor. The handset will be rather large, however, it will have rather slim bezels, making it a reasonable size for a device with a 5.5-inch display.
The 5.5-inch display will be an Optic AMOLED one. The screen will offer a 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 401 ppi pixel density. The AMOLED displays are known for their nice colors, and the FullHD resolution will ensure beautiful, crisp and detailed images. The smartphone will reportedly get a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen protection, which will make it scratch resistant. There is no doubt that the OnePlus 5 will be able to ensure a great visual experience. Playing games and watching videos on this handset will certainly be a delight.
The chipset and the other internal features will also contribute to the great user experience ensured by the OnePlus 5. The smartphone will sport the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, which is the most powerful one on the market right now. The processor is paired with an Adreno 540 GPU that really makes the handset run fast and smooth. As for the software, the OnePlus 5 will most likely come running on Android Nougat out of the box and it will be upgradeable to Android O when it becomes available. The smartphone will come in two different configurations. One of them will include 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage while the other will offer a whopping 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. Both versions will also offer users the possibility to further expand the storage of their device by up to 256 GB.
OnePlus confirmed it will be working with DxO in order to deliver the best camera setup ever. The upcoming flagship killer will feature a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP and a 20 MP sensor. The primary camera setup will also feature detection autofocus and LED flash. As for the front- facing camera, it will reportedly come with an 8 MP sensor that will be able to record 1080p videos. The OnePlus 5 will also impress with a rather big, 3,300 mAh battery. This should ensure a nice battery life. The OnePlus flagship will come with a USB Type-C port, and it will feature fast- charging support. The handset will reportedly cost somewhere around $650.

Apple iPhone 8
The Apple iPhone 8 will be one of three handsets the Cupertino- based company will launch this year. Besides the anniversary model, the tech giant will also deliver an iPhone 7s and an iPhone 7s Plus. Out of these three, the iPhone 8 will supposedly offer the most power and the most innovative design. According to rumors, the iPhone 8 will lose the Touch ID on the front of the device. At least in the form, it is on the current models. Instead, the iPhone 8 will have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, or a front-mounted one, embedded in the touchscreen. One thing seems to be certain, we will not get the signature Apple fingerprint sensor set under the screen of the handset. Naturally, the iPhone 8 will offer the same build quality its predecessors have ensured.
The display of the iPhone 8 will be the fist AMOLED display on an Apple smartphone. The 4.7-inch screen will probably not be as impressive as the one of the OnePlus 5, as it will only offer a 750 x 1334 pixels resolution and 326 ppi pixel density. Th smartphone’s screen will also feature Ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating. Naturally, it will offer Apple’s great 3D Touch feature, which will help the handset ensure an amazing user experience.
The Apple iPhone 8 will be powered by an Apple A11 quad-core processor and it will run on iOS 11 out of the box. As for the GPU, it will most likely be just as great as the one found in previous models. The handset will also get a boost in memory. The anniversary model will come with 3 GB of RAM and will include 32 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB of internal storage. This is still a lot less than the amount of memory offered by other flagship smartphones. Even so, until now Apple seemed to have managed to ensure a good user experience, even with smaller amounts of memory. One thing didn’t change, however. The iPhone still won’t feature a microSD card slot, so users won’t be able to add any storage to the handset.
While the Apple iPhone 8 will reportedly come with good quality cameras, just like the iPhone 7 Plus did, chances are slim that these will be nicer than the ones of the OnePlus 5. The iPhone 8 will supposedly come with a 12 MP back camera and a 7 MP front- facing camera. This sound rather dull. However, according to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the front-facing camera will feature an infrared module which is capable of sensing 3D space. This is definitely a game-changing feature, so we expect a lot of people to be excited about it. The handset’s battery will probably not be a large one, as iPhone s usually don’t impress in this section. As for the pricing, rumor has it that the price of the iPhone 8 could be as high as $1,000.

– 3GB RAM
– 32GB/128GB / 256GB storage
– 12 MP dual rear camera, 7MP secondary camera
Bottom line
Both smartphones will definitely be awesome devices. While the iPhone 8 sounds somewhat better, it will be a lot more expensive. Customers will be able to get a very similar user experience for a lot less with the OnePlus 5, which will also be a really nice smartphone. Of course, the information we have on both devices is not official. After the official realase of both smartphones, when we can put them through serious tests, we will take another look at how they compare to each other.
