We are aware that a Twisted Metal television series is currently in post-production, and there are rumors that Firesprite Games is developing a brand-new PS5 installment in the illustrious Sony series. Although the project hasn’t been officially announced, fans have been looking for details for a while, and a number of job listings seem to contain some tidbits of new information.
Many of the job postings, which were first discovered by ResetEra, mention a AAA multiplayer action game being created in Unreal Engine 5, but none of them specifically mention Twisted Metal. The “bold project aims to break new ground in multiplayer, blending gameplay mechanics in new ways and deeply embedding storytelling elements into a unique universe,” according to the posting for a Principal Physics Programmer. It’s possible that you’ll be able to control both your character and your vehicle, which would be a first for the franchise.
The listing continues by stating that “experience creating VR gameplay would be useful.” The Persistence and Horizon Call of the Mountain were created by Firesprite Games, one of the better virtual reality creators at Sony. Since the platform owner has expressed a desire to develop hybrid software that can be used with and without PSVR2, we suppose that’s a possibility in this case.
The job listings are undoubtedly intriguing, but there isn’t much substance to be gleaned from them because they are purposefully vague. Although PS Studios CEO Hermen Hulst has previously hinted at the possibility, one position mentions “knowledge of a range of game services such as Steam and PSN back ends” as a desirable, we don’t believe this necessarily confirms the title will be available on PC at launch. We’ll just have to wait for more details from the manufacturer, I guess.
