After teasing their “most brutal” Warriors title, Omega Force, developers of the Dynasty Warriors series, revealed earlier this week that they were in fact working on a Berserk game. Fan speculations were proven correct at E3 when the team released a brief teaser (WARNING: video is nsfw and contains potential triggering images related to sexual assault) confirming the game’s development as well as the working title of BERSERK. While little is known about the game at this point, those familiar with Kentaro Miura’s manga know to expect something far darker than any of Omega Force’s previous works. A recently surfaced image has finally shed some light on what the game will actually look like.

The promotional image shared by popular let’s player Matt McHaggar on his Twitter shows off a few screenshots and the character models for both Guts and Griffith, Berserk‘s main protagonist and antagonist, respectively. While it’s difficult to speculate based on these visuals alone, it does appear that both characters will be playable. This leads to further questions on what part of the series’ timeline the game will focus on. With a 25 year history that spans 38 volumes and counting, most adaptations of the manga to date have focused on a very small segment of Guts’ journey.
While a playable Griffith might suggest that the game will focus more on the “Golden Age” arc, when the two bitter rivals fought on the same side, Guts is seen sporting his signature armor and weapon acquired at the Golden Age’s tragic end. With an upcoming Berserk anime set to focus on the “Black Swordsman” arc, we might expect the game to cover the same material.
Despite its incredibly recent announcement, Omega Force’s Berserk game is already scheduled for a September release on the PS4 in Japan. A Western release for the PS4 and Vita has also been confirmed, but no dates have been given.
