PlayStation Network has been slowly sending out messages to PS4 users who have pre-ordered the newest Hitman game, surprising them with a fairly shocking announcement. That announcement? All pre-orders have been cancelled.
For now, at least.
The message that’s being sent around details the following:
Thank you for pre-ordering Hitman. The publisher has notified us that the configuration of the product you pre-ordered has changed significantly. As a result we have withdrawn the current pre-order from PlayStation Store and will cancel all pre-orders. You will receive email confirmation when your pre-order has been cancelled. A revised pre-order for Hitman will be available on the store soon.
The PR team of Hitman immediately tended to damage control by posting a Tweet to ease everyone’s worries:
Their pinned tweet announcing the PS4 and PC Beta for Hitman remains as of posting this article, meaning that it will still most likely be available next month.
This isn’t the first time the game has had some controversial news surrounding it. When the game was first announced in the summer of last year, IO Interactive head Hans Seifert stated in an interview with VideoGamer.com that although the reboot is scheduled to be released March 11th and listed for $60, the game will be “fully complete at launch but it is not finished”. Steifert added to his odd contradiction that the game won’t have micro-transactions or purchasable downloadable content, but instead will have more content and locations that would be added to the game for free through updates. He also insisted that the game should not be considered an Early Access game.
