When Shenmue 3 finally got its first teaser trailer last month, many people noted that the character facial animations were a little off. Game creator Yu Suzuki said shortly afterwards that this was due to the fact that they were still working on the facial animations. Well, now the team has released a new video showing the progress on those very animations.
The video that they have shared is very brief and only shows the animations for a couple of characters. I’m not sure this is going to put anyone’s minds at ease who were concerned from the teaser trailer, but progress is being made at the very least. You can check out the video for yourself at the bottom of this post.
Shenmue 3 has been a long time coming, with the first two games releasing right around the turn of the millennium. Due to neither of those games being financial successes, the series was put on the back burner for many years and many thought it would never be finished. However, at E3 2015 creator Yu Suzuki announced a Kickstarter campaign for the third installment in the series, and it quickly became the most successful video game Kickstarter campaign in the crowdfunding service’s history.
While we’re still waiting on an official release date for Shenmue 3, the game is currently aiming for a release in the second half of 2018. The game is in development for PlayStation 4 and PC. Be sure to check out the video showing off the facial animations below.
