Final Fantasy XV released last year (still feels weird actually saying that) to much acclaim and criticism. The gameplay and open world to explore were fantastic while the actual plot left a lot to be desired. It was thanks to those story flaws that Square Enix decided to embark on a slew of post-launch DLC. The downloadable content would focus on Noctis’ merry band of men, one at a time, and give each of them the star treatment. More importantly, the idea was to bring a coherent narrative to the quartet dynamic.
We knew that our friendly strongman, Gladiolus, would be the first to receive this, we just didn’t know when. Square Enix has been kind enough to remedy that problem by releasing a trailer for Final Fantasy XV: Episode Gladiolus at this year’s PAX East. The footage reveals that this will take place after the group’s confrontation with Ravus, Lady Lunafreya’s brother, at the base that held our protagonists’ car hostage. You know the part in the beginning of the game where he showed up out of nowhere, overpowered Gladiolus, and just had his way verbally with our heroes?
Anyway, Gladiolus was taken aback at being manhandled and wanted to grow stronger. So he approaches Cor, the awesome fighter who was considered one of the world’s strongest but only appeared for less than fifteen minutes, in an effort to become more powerful. The underutilized Immortal Shogun then informs him that there’s something called “The Trial of Gilgamesh” that could potentially help with his goals. Thus, the group sets out on this task for strength.
For those unaware, Gilgamesh is a somewhat recurring character in the Final Fantasy franchise. He has appeared in a handful of titles as a boss, antagonist, or summon and wields many different swords (sometimes from other Final Fantasy heroes too). Will he grant Gladiolus the strength he seeks? We’ll all find out on March 28th as announced at the end of the trailer. You can view the video below.
