DICE’s development director, Dan Vanderlind has issued a tweet that officially confirms he’s moved moved on to work on the next Battlefield.
Now that we’ve shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield..

Vaderlind has been busy in recent months piloting the successful release of DICE’s Battlefront reboot. Despite a mixed reception and doubts around its long-term playability, Battlefront has left both Star Wars and Battlefront fans (mostly) content. As the first DICE-produced title designed for current-gen consoles, it gave gamers a glimpse of how beautifully rendered a game-world can be. Sprinting through the crystalline icy tunnels on Hoth, or pelting through those gorgeous ferns on Endor, it’s hard not to feel shivers of excitement thinking ahead to what DICE might serve up with the next Battlefield.
With the recent release of the Battle of Jakku DLC (and rumors of a new playable hero), Battlefront will remain in the spotlight for the immediate future. It’s not Battlefield though, and fans of DICE’s flagship IP are left patiently waiting for the next chapter in their favorite story.
We already know a few things about the next Battlefield title. Previous announcements from EA confirm it’s slated for a 2016 release, and will see a return to the familiar militarized setting of previous mainline titles. There are still are many questions to be answered: Will DICE take the series to a near-future setting like the Call of Duty franchise? Perhaps it’s time to return to the series’ roots and give games another taste of WW2 era action?
Wherever DICE might take the next Battlefield, it is comforting to know Vanderlind is now working on the project. We’re in good hands, and we can’t wait.
