Right now, AGDQ 2023 is in progress, and if you haven’t been following it, you’ve been missing some fantastic speedruns from the top runners in the world. Additionally, yesterday’s charity speedrunning event saw the setting of a brand-new world record for Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Jhay established the new record, beating his own previous mark by 4.4 seconds. The current record in the Any% category is 2:54:51.33. (With Bank). What does Any% (With Bank) mean in reality? It falls under a specific category where the sole criteria is to utilize the Bank Toad to unlock the final galaxy. You don’t need to complete the game or collect every item to qualify.
In case you missed it or want to see it again (who wouldn't??), BIG GGs to @NotImJhay for getting the WR in Super Mario Galaxy 2! GGs to HardcoreGaming, @SuperT302, and MutantsAbyss for the great race as well, whew! #AGDQ2023 pic.twitter.com/vQgCluJ9rP

This record is made even more impressive by the fact that Jhay not only achieved it while competing against three other Super Mario Galaxy 2 speedrunners, MutantsAbyss, HardcoreGaming, and SuperViperT302., but also while doing so in front of a live audience of tens of thousands on the GDQ Twitch (the event was remote).
From this tweet, it’s clear that Jhay, a Welshman who already holds 7/9 world records in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, is pleased with himself. We don’t condemn him for enjoying himself.
I JUST GOT WR LIVE AT GDQ IN FRONT OF 80K PEOPLE HOW IN THE ACTUAL UNIVERSE

The entire nearly 3-hour speedrun event is entertaining to watch because all four competitors exhibit amazing abilities and strategies. You may watch the speedrun on Twitch (where the embed should be time-stamped), and after it’s been published to YouTube, we’ll update this article with the YouTube link!
