Don’t Nod, the developer renowned for the beloved adventure game Life is Strange, currently has a total of seven games in the works, with four of them still under wraps. With titles such as Vampyr and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden in its portfolio (with more on the horizon), it’s evident that the company has grand publishing aspirations, aiming to establish itself as a major contender in a particular market. Consequently, the company is undergoing a reorganization to align with its ambitious goals.
In an interview with IGN, Don’t Nod, with studios in Paris and Montreal, revealed their plans to reorient the company. They aim to concentrate on their “three distinct internal branches of expertise”: narrative adventure, action adventure, and RPGs. These branches will each have their own specialization. For instance, the action adventure branch is located in Paris, where the developers strive to continuously improve their skills and create increasingly impressive games with each new release.
We have information on Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, a game that appears to be a worthy successor to Life is Strange. Koira, developed externally by Tolima but published by Don’t Nod, is described as a “musical, hand-drawn adventure.” Another project in the works is a collaboration with Tiny Bull Studios, an Italian developer. One of the undisclosed games, at least, seems to be a fantasy RPG that is not anticipated until “beyond 2025.”.
CEO Oskar Guilbert has shrewdly pinpointed a promising niche in the market that is refreshingly different from what most others are pursuing. In light of the industry’s current state, Guilbert believes it is crucial to prioritize games that fall in the AA or slightly higher category rather than solely focusing on AAA titles. It’s important for us to streamline our efforts and utilize our unique talents to minimize the need for difficult decision-making. Currently, our primary emphasis is on concentration and development.
