Flintlock: Siege of Dawn is an upcoming action RPG for the PS5 developed by A44 Games, a New Zealand-based studio renowned for their 2018 title, Ashen, which drew inspiration from the Souls series. Today, we were given a comprehensive gameplay overview of the studio’s upcoming game, providing us with our most detailed glimpse so far, accompanied by insights from creative director Simon Dasan.
The Siege of Dawn takes place in the captivating world of Kyon, where the Coalition Army finds itself in a relentless battle for control over the city of the gods. The story is heavily inspired by flintlock fantasy fiction, immersing players in a thrilling narrative set against the backdrop of a grueling stalemate. The game introduces a caravan mechanic that may resonate with Ashen players, providing a hub for NPC characters to congregate and offer quests. The combat in this game still carries the influence of Dark Souls, but A44 has added more mobility to create what they like to call “Souls-lite.”. It seems we have yet another gaming term to deal with.
