In January, Palworld, a game that caused quite a stir, took the internet by storm. With its wide availability on platforms like Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview, the game managed to captivate an impressive 25 million players. The developer, Pocketpair, has stated that they are actively working on bringing the game to other platforms. They are currently in discussions with various platform holders, which may include PlayStation.
In an interview with Bloomberg (thanks, VGC), Takuro Mizobe, CEO and game director of Pocketpair, expressed the studio’s openness to potential partnerships or acquisitions. However, Mizobe emphasized that Pocketpair intends to maintain its identity as a small studio, with a focus on creating multiple small games. We are not the target audience for big-budget triple-A games.
Palworld was developed on a relatively modest budget of less than 1 billion yen ($6.7 million), but managed to rake in a staggering amount of profit, reaching tens of billions of yen. Ever since Palworld hit the shelves, the gaming industry has been buzzing with a wave of highly anticipated titles. From the much-awaited Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to the unexpected success of Helldivers 2, these games have undeniably stolen the spotlight. However, Pocketpair possesses a unique quality that piques our interest, and we eagerly anticipate uncovering more details about its future endeavors in the near future.
