Nintendo’s new Switch console continues to do very well, with the company announcing that it has now surpassed 2 million sales in the U.S. alone. The console also helped Nintendo claim 2/3rds of the total console sales for the month of September with the help of 3DS and Super NES Classic Edition, making it the best-selling console in the U.S. for 3 months in a row now.
Things are also looking good from a software perspective for the Switch, as 3 games from the console occupied September’s best-selling games of the month list. The games were Mario + Rabbids Kingdom battle at #7, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #10 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #11. The 3DS also managed to get a game into the top 10, with Metroid: Samus Returns coming in at the #8 spot.
Things are only looking better from here for the Switch, as the holiday season has plenty of games that will add to the console’s fantastic year one lineup. Games like Super Mario Odyssey, DOOM, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will all launch by the end of the year, which will undoubtedly result in big sales numbers for the console over the holiday season.
A lot was riding on the Switch to do well for Nintendo, considering that the Wii U ended up being a commercial failure. The company made sure to launch with a highly-anticipated game this time, with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild resulting in huge first-month sales for the console. The sales haven’t slowed down much since then, with there being a steady stream of games to keep people interested in the console.
