Sony has revealed the next batch of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers, and it’s definitely a packed list that we have this time. The big one here is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which released in 2015 and was one of the most critically-acclaimed games of that year. Its prequel, Ground Zeroes, was available for free in June 2015, so now the whole story has been temporarily made free.
The Phantom Pain isn’t the only game that is being offered for free for the month of October. Horror fans who are looking to get into the Halloween spirit will love the offering of Amnesia: Collection, which is a compilation of horror games that includes Amnesia: The Dark Descent and A Machine for Pigs. These are joined by Hue and Sky Force, which are cross-buy between PS4 and PS Vita. PS3 gamers will be getting Hustle Kings and Monster Jam Battlegrounds.
The following is the complete breakdown of the all of the games and the platforms that you can play them on:
PS4
- Amnesia Collection
- Hue
- Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
- Sky Force Anniversary
PS3
- Hustle Kings
- Monster Jam Battlegrounds
- Sky Force Anniversary
Vita
- Hue
- Sky Force Anniversary
This is definitely a solid batch of games for the month of October, but it’s hard to pay attention to much else here when you have Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in the bunch. While it was seen as a step down for the series in terms of its overall story, from a gameplay perspective it was a massive step up and included one of the best open worlds ever in a video game. It’s also the last game in the series that will ever be created by series creator Hideo Kojima, as he parted ways with Konami the same year it released.
