Fans have had to wait a long time, but they will finally be getting another 2D Metroid game next month. Metroid: Samus Returns will be launching exclusively for the 3DS in the middle of September, and now Nintendo has released a brand new trailer that you can check out at the bottom of this post.
While this definitely isn’t a lengthy trailer seeing as it’s only about 30 seconds long, it nevertheless gives a good look at the game and what it has to offer. It’s looking like the game is going to be an action-packed adventure, with Samus having some new moves up her sleeves to take down her foes.
The game has Samus returning to active duty to exterminate the Metroids detected within the interior of planet SR388. “The underground labyrinth of SR388 is filled with peril at each turn. From vicious flora to killer creatures, each step you take may be your last. As you explore the dark tunnels, you may notice the remains of an ancient civilization. Could this long-lost culture be connected to the Metroids that now infest its ruins?”
The game will also feature amiibo support for the Samus Aran and Metroid amiibo. The following is a breakdown of each amiibo and what it does within the game:
Samus Aran
This amiibo figure shows Samus Aran as she appears in the Metroid™: Samus Returns game and crouched in her classic pose from the Metroid II-Return of Samus™ game’s box art.
In-game amiibo functionality: Tap to unlock an Aeion Energy Reserve Tank that contains 500 units of Aeion energy.
Metroid
These mysterious organisms have the power to absorb the energy of any life-form they come in contact with. This ability has put them at the center of many galactic conflicts.
In-game amiibo functionality: Tap to mark the closest Metroid’s location on the map.
Metroid: Samus Returns will launch on September 15th for 3DS. Check out the new trailer below.
