Nintendo has announced a new bundle for the original 2DS console, as it will be releasing with New Super Mario Bros. 2 next month. The bundle will be releasing on August 25th, with the console itself being white-and-red. It definitely looks good, though New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a strange game to be bundling it with considering its age.
Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Dough Bowser, said the following:
“Nintendo 2DS is the ideal system for parents that want to introduce their kids to the creative world of Nintendo that they grew up with. Its budget-friendly price and huge library of games will provide hours of entertainment for the whole family – whether after school, on the weekends or even while traveling.”
The cost of the bundle is definitely priced right for those casual gamers who are looking to try out something new without spending big bucks, as it will sell for $79.99. It’s worth clarifying that this is not the redesign of the 2DS that Nintendo released recently, which took on the form factor of the regular 3DS.
As for what makes the 2DS different compared to the 3DS outside of the form factor, the biggest change is the complete removal of the 3D functionality. Some say that the 3D effects can be harmful to children of certain ages, so this console was made specifically for the younger audience. However, there are many 3DS owners who shut the 3D off completely, so if you’re not big into 3D then you can save some money by getting a 2DS.
