If you live in Canada (like me), and if you live relatively close to one of two specially selected locations (like me), and if you are hyped for Super Mario Odyssey (like me), then rejoice. Nintendo’s official website announced that two malls in Canada, one in Mississauga, Ontario, and the other in Burnaby, British Colombia, will be offering Nintendo fans a chance to demo Super Mario Odyssey. The malls that have been selected to host these early access kiosks are Erin Mills Town Centre in Ontario, and Metropolis at Metrotown in BC.
Registration begins this Saturday, June 10th at 12pm local time, where the first come, first served will receive a designated time slot to play. The actual days when the lucky few will be allowed to have their early access time with the game are all next week, from June 13th to June 15th. As these days coincide with the schedule of E3, perhaps Nintendo is simply throwing a bone to their Canadian fanbase, who has often been neglected, at least in comparison to the usually more lucky and popular Americans.
It hasn’t been specified how long each time slot will last for each player. Nintendo has also not stated whether such demo stations will be available to other countries. The last time Nintendo did such an event for the public to play an upcoming game was for Super Smash Bros for Wii U. If those line ups were any indication, the turn out for the new Mario game will probably be just as hectic, especially taking into account the huge success of the Switch.
There will also be a reward for those who have already pre-ordered Super Mario Odyssey, ARMS or Splatoon 2. If you bring your receipt to the demo station, you’ll receive a “Mario Universe Challenge Coin“, which is probably a novelty collectible item based off of Super Mario Odyssey itself.
Hopefully I’ll be back with another article next week with my experience of the new Mario from one of these kiosks.
