The new version of Dissidia Final Fantasy had been exclusive to Japanese arcades for a while now, which bummed out many fans of the series around the world due to how good it looked. However, that is finally going to change, as Square Enix has announced that the game will be coming to PlayStation 4 next year as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.
The announcement was actually leaked early by Amazon, which may or may not have forced the publisher to come out with the announcement early. The game is being co-developed by Square Enix and Team Ninja, with the latter being most recently responsible for the fantastic Nioh. An announcement trailer for the game was also released, which you can check out below.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT – Announcement Trailer
While there’ still plenty of news on the horizon regarding this game, the publisher promises that the game will include over 20 characters and summons at launch, which include the likes of Cloud, Squall, Tidus, Ifrit, Odin and more. An official release date has not yet been announced, though right now they are currently targeting an early 2018 release on PlayStation 4.
For those who are unfamiliar with this series, it is a 3v3 brawler that adds in some strategy with a system called “bravery.” This allows you to pull off special moves that come with all of the style one would expect from a Final Fantasy game, with the footage we’ve seen from the arcade version of the game and the new console trailer looking very impressive.
This will also serve as a big jumping point for the series, as it was previously only available on the PSP. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT marks the first time that the series has ever appeared on a home console, and this is a move that is long overdue. The series has also featured solid production values and lots of mayhem happening on screen, and now being able to experience that on the big screen with more comfortable controls should make this the definitive experience.
