Resident Evil 7 received critical acclaim when it launched at the beginning of this year, successfully bringing the series back to its roots while shaking things up with a new first-person perspective. However, the game didn’t exactly light things up in the sales department, which is something that has worried some people regarding what it means for the series going forward.
However, Capcom remains optimistic about the game’s future, and thinks that it will ship an impressive amount of units in its lifetime. The company recently projected during an investor Q&A session that the game will ship 10 million units in its lifetime, despite coming up short in their initial sales projections for the end of the fiscal year on March 31st. The game only managed to ship 3.5 million units by that time, though they had hoped that it would sell 4 million units.
The company claims that everything is on track for the game to continue to do well, as they noted that the overall life cycle for games is growing larger. This means that they expect the game to continue to push copies for the foreseeable future, while adding that digital sales were growing and represent a higher margin compared to retail copies.
Resident Evil 7 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Despite the game being out since January and already receiving two batches of DLC, there’s actually more content for the game that will be releasing later this year. The content in question is called Not a Hero, which stars a new protagonist and gives some background information regarding what else was going on during the main events of the game. That content was originally set to launch at some point during this spring, though the developer announced recently that they needed to delay it in order to make it as good as it could be.
